Theory & Hazard Perception Test
If you want to drive you will need to pass the Driving Theory test before you can proceed to take your practical driving test
.
There are two sections to the theory test:
- The multiple choice questions
- Hazards perception test
Theory test:
The theory test is made up of multiple choice questions. To prepare for the theory based test you could use the following:
- Highway code books
- Know your traffic signs book
- Theory test dvd/cd-roms
Although, there are many more publications available for you to choose.
The theory test consists of 50 questions, the pass rate being 43 out of 50 questions and lasts for 57 minutes.
During your theory test you will also read a short story (case study), 5 of the 50 questions will be based on this short story.
After taking the theory test, you can choose to have a 3 minute break before beginning the hazard perception test.
Hazard Perception Test:
You will be shown a series of 14 video clips on a computer screen.
The clips:
- Feature everyday road scenes
- Contain at least one developing hazard, but one of the clips will feature 2 developing hazards. (A developing hazard is something that may result in you having to take some action, such as changing speed or direction).
The earlier you notice a developing hazard and respond, the higher your score will be. The highest score you will receive from each clip is 5 points.
If you continuously click during a clip, a message will appear at the end advising you have scored zero points for that particular clip.
Your Theory and Hazard test result:
Once both tests are completed, you will be given your results immediately after at the test centre.
Hi, I'm Simon Wareham
I started A.B.S School Of Motoring in 2004. Since then I have taught many people from a wide age range to learn to drive, many of whom have passed first time. During this time my pass rate has been considerably higher than the national average. I strive to achieve the highest professional standards and believe a friendly relaxed environment is the best way to learn, which is backed up by an exemplary local reputation.
My lessons are tailored for the individual, depending on their needs. I believe in teaching pupils to ‘drive’ and not to purely ‘pass a test!’ In doing this my pupils will not only pass their test, but will be safer beyond passing their test. The test centre I use is based in Yeovil, so this is where your test would be conducted. I cover the Castle Cary and surrounding areas of Shepton Mallet, Bruton, Wincanton, Evercreech, Ditcheat, Sparkford plus many more. Call me for more information or to book a lesson."It's great learning with Simon, he gets your confidence right up. He also makes you feel really welcome" Jamie - Shepton Mallet.
"Simons a great instructor doesn't argue or shout, the lessons have a calm atmosphere, he understands perfectly what you struggle on and how to improve :)".
"When I first started lessons with Simon my confidence was lacking, however over a series of lessons he managed to get me making my own decisions and as I felt safe knowing that Simon would step in if anything went wrong my confidence grew. I can happily recommend Simon" Brett - Evercreech.
"Simon is a fabulous instructor who is always calm and enthusiastic. I feel that I've increased in confidence and progressed in every lesson due to Simon's great teaching" Lottie - Kings school Bruton.
"Simon really builds your confidence on the road. The driving procedures you learn allow you to deal with any situation safely". Vicky - Ditcheat.
